TIPS to Help GROW Your Fan Base

There are tons of people that drop song after song with no real intent or plan to spread their music, besides sending the link to their whole friend's list and ask them to spread it. While that can work, if you don't already have a huge amount of followers, or your followers don't really listen to the type of music you make, you aren't making much headway in terms of growing your fan base.

Instead of just dropping music and HOPING the right person sees it, here are a few things you can do to ORGANICALLY grow your fan base!

1. Actively engage with your current fans!

Meaning liking AND responding to as many comments as possible.

If you have under 10k followers, it shouldn't be incredibly hard to like and respond to your FAN'S comments. Think about if you were to comment on one of your favorite artist's posts letting them know you have been vibin' with their new single.. A little later, they respond back letting you know they appreciate you for rockin' with them. How are you feeling? You definitely are going to feel a lot more appreciated as a fan, that's for sure. Not only that, but you are probably going to comment more frequently on their posts now that you know they read through their comments and you will actually be heard.

In addition to building an artist to fan relationship, you will ALSO be increasing the engagement rate on your post. Take IG for example.. If you had 10 fan's comments on your post and you spent the time to respond to all of them as they came in, you'll have 2x the amount of engagement. Even though half of it is you, IG's algorithm is going to REWARD you for engaging with your audience, therefore giving you a little more visibility because the post is performing well.

2. Post your content as MANY platforms as you can! (Music Distribution Sites and Social Media)

How many of you only release your music on Apple Music and Spotify? Why?? By only dropping on the most popular platforms, you are missing EASY streams.

There is a zero percent chance that someone who doesn't use Spotify will hear your track if it is only on Spotify and Apple Music.

Instead, consider dropping to all of the major platforms (Spotify, SoundCloud, TIDAL, Bandcamp, YouTube, Apple Music, Deezer, Pandora.)

Some people simply do not have all music platforms, or favor certain platforms. You never want to miss out on a potential fan just because it isn't convenient to listen to your music. Any songs you forgot about simply because you can't listen on your preferred platform?

If you only use certain social media platforms, you are missing out on so many potential fans! Step out of your comfort zone and put yourself out there! Go ahead and create a page for every social media platform that you can. It's all about doing things that give you a higher chance to SUCCEED. You will NOT lose fans for creating a social media account you don't have already. By creating a new page, all you do is up the chances for you to gain a NEW fan.

You can create a Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Triller, or the all popular TikTok (which of course is HUGE rn, as it is sound driven.)

3. Network with other artists!

You really don't want to be that artist that thinks they are too good to network with other artists. Take a second to follow common hashtags for your niche on IG and if you see someone dropped a teaser to their single and you like it, then drop a comment and let them know! And not just 3 fire emojis. Make your comment specific to the post so the artist knows you're genuine. Most likely, they're going to your page and see what's up.I know commenting and liking on a different posts can be time consuming, but it is something you can do throughout the entire day. One or two comments here and there and before you know it, you have engaged with 10 completely NEW people everyday. Do that everyday for a week and that's 70 new people that have potentially seen your page and followed you for simply listening and commenting on their video.

Do you ever click on the pages that obviously are just copy pasting comments to any and every photo? Nah, you might even delete the comment for them self promoting on your page. If someone comments "Yo, that line ____ was dope, we should work." it will end up a lot better than commenting "Click the link in my bio to hear some fire." on a post completely unrelated.

All in all, engaging with fans, spreading your potential reach by working with multiple platforms, and networking with artists that are also grinding are 3 things you can ALWAYS do. If you think you're already doing these things, then SCALE. As you grow, you will have more and more fans to engage with to give them the feeling of "knowing" their favorite artist a little more. Try these things out for 30 days and see how your engagement rate goes up.
