Lyrics To Go Vol. 1 x Kota the Friend

The Hood Savior Project Spotlight is back! For this week, we are featuring Kota the Friend and his album “Lyrics to Go Vol. 1.”

This project was made possible from a YouTube series Kota started in 2016 where he would just drop freestyles, “loose” tracks, and some exclusives. The popularity grew as he continued to drop until he decided to combine them into a project of 10 one-minute songs. Kota produced all of the songs that show up on the album, but occasionally he dropped freestyles over other beats, Chance’s Brain Cell instrumental.

I first heard about Kota after Pivot Gang, the Chicago rap collective, dropped 2 songs featuring Kota last Summer. Since then I listened to him lightly, but ever since I heard LTGV1, I’ve been listened to Kota on repeat all weekend.

In addition to this project that was released at the beginning of the year, Kota has also hinted at another album he is currently working on.

Kota is apart of his label FLTBYS, which he describes as a hip-hop and skating culture brand that was “Created for free thinkers by public school kids who weren’t supposed to ever be sh*t.”

If you’ve not heard of Kota, then definitely go check him out for some bars that are authentic, smooth, unapologetic. Enjoy some bars from my personal favorite from the project, Flu Game and go check out Kota's social media, which will be linked below.
